View Full Version : Bang for the buck?
I have a strong 11 year old. She has been swinging my son's old practice bat all winter (an easton typhoon 31/21), but this is really her second year back playing softball. I am debating between:
$70 buying 2 worth quads 31/21 (There is a thread here that says they are good but not durable)
$85 Easton SCR1B CV12 31/21 (I have not heard anything about this bat, but it looks like a deal)
$99 Easton Synergy CNT Fastpitch Bat SCN2B 31/22 (is this too heavy for an 11 year old)
After that it looks like we start getting into the $170 range for bats like the Easton SRV4B Synergy Speed -10. I don't know if I want to go there.
Any advice?

Quads-very small sweet spot, durability is so-so, I paid $5 & $12 NIW for mine thru ebay auction, mainly to use during cold weather. I would never buy another one unless I was seeking the warranty replacement (toxic).
**Alloys are considered a thing of the past in the fastpitch world, everyone swings composites with a few loyal Anderson cultists here and there.**
CV12(top 15 bat)-very end loaded hybrid, can take a lot of abuse, good bat but not great. Needs a couple 1000 hits to break in the inner comp sleeve. Mishits sting like hell.
Perfect cold weather bat but again slightly behind the comps when it counts during the spring. **That 31/21 will be more like a 31/22.
scn2b(top 5 bat)-very end loaded, freakin tank! I love these bats, I own more of these than anything else but not made for everyone, definitely takes a strong hitter to handle the weight. 2nd/3rd owner usually reaps the benefits when it breaks in so it does need some time to reach it's peak.
CV12 & 2B should be very similar in weight, the cv12s are usually an ounce over. One thing to consider about the srv4b & easton speeds, they are heavier than sticker so that -10 will mostly likely be a -9.
**If you're looking for a "true" -10 than Demarini & Combat would fit those needs better.

Combat Morph Gear-$99, if you're worried about the drop weight on the CV12 & 2B, than this one might be a viable option for you....great bat!

Worth Titan 5.4L-$85....this is a utrip bat which can be used for USSSA & LL but banned for ASA. I use this for LL and the few usssa tournaments we play, would easily rank this as a top 2-3 fp bat!
ASA bats top out at 98, this one exceeds 100 mph!

Thanks. She only plays in LL so I will look at both of these bats. I guess most of the bats I listed are end loaded. How are the combat and the worth in that respect?

They are more of a balanced end load, not as heavy ended like the CV12 & 2b.
I love end loaded bats they seem to do the most damage but not everyone can swing them effectively.
I'd pick two and let her decide which one she likes, for us its performance but the kids usually base their decision on color & graphics, good luck!

I would like to thank you for sharing your thoughts and time into the stuff you post!!

I agree, thanks a lot.
FYI, the combat won. My daughter didn't want any bat that was illegal in any league. She considered that cheating.

"My daughter didn't want any bat that was illegal in any league. She considered that cheating."
It's banned due to softball politics between ASA & USSSA.
ASA is trying to create a monopoly and wants the consumer to only buy their certified bats and play in their league.
USSSA & LL use the same bat rating, bpf 1.20. The bat itself is not illegal and approved for LL, therefore wouldn't be cheating.

I agree Hookem, I researched for my 8 year old daughter's bat , and got a good deal on an Easton Synge 30/18.5, and all she cared about was that she liked the colors.
Still beraking the bat in, it gets it's first game test this weekend. looking forward to it. Hopefully I made a good purchase. Wish I had found this forum before I bought.
