Our Mens league has gone to a total wood league. Last year we were 1/2 and 1/2. I used a Baum bat and it was ok but I didn't feel I had the distance on the ball that I usually do: Do anyone have any info on these bats:
Bear Valley Bats
Metalwoodbats
Powerwood bats
Combat Backbone bats
Any info would be appreciated!
Thanks,

Hey fnsret. I will only speak about the PowerWood bat since I invented and make it. You are right in trying to find out what other people's experience is. I assume you've been to my site at MacDougallBats.com (http://www.macdougallbats.com) and read the "Reviews" page there.
Also go to my facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/PowerWood and scroll down to find a recent posting from adult league player and manager in New Orleans (James Morris). This is very typical of the reactions I get when people try my bat the first time, especially if they are experienced with wood. Let me know if I can answer any questions and good luck this season. By the way, I'll go head to head with any other bat out there, whether it be traditional one piece wood or composite. It is just a fact that nothing compares performance wise and a 4 month breakage warranty for an all real wood bat is unmatched as well.

Hey fnret, What is your price range? There are many options to choose from, our club is using Annex Bats at www.annexbaseball.com. We love them they ship for free. I haven't swung a powerwood. I usaully only go through 1-2bats a year as it is so i go for the one piece of wood. I would ask them though for a team discount, that's what our President did to get a good deal.

Mike, I have no price range, we went to 1/2 and 1/2 season last year with half wood and half aluminum. This year we are all wood. I was a expert per say on aluminum bats but not much on wood. I used a Baum bat last year and it was ok, didn't feel good though. My bat seemed a little slower with wood with alot of my base hits going toward the middle to second base side. I normally swing a 34/31 aluminum with a 31/32 handle. I am not the power hitter I used to be but still drive the ball well. I was thinking I need to go to a 33 1/2 or a 33 wood? I used to be a pull hitter but with age not as much. Any comparison on the Baum bat to the Powerwood?
Thanks,
Lee

Size wise, you cannot make any comparison between metal bats and wood bats. The only thing that matters is the moment of inertia (MOI). That is the actual measurement of how much effort it takes to swing the bat. Any two bats with the same MOI, regardless of metal or wood, you will have the same swing speed.
The size of the bat has pretty much nothing to do with how far you will hit the ball. (read blog on my site). Remember that Barry Bonds and Tony Gwynn both used a 32" bat and seemed to do pretty well. It is more about bat speed and control. Especially if you are getting older (like me). I have had several people who I have "talked down" in size thank me later because they started hitting way better.
As far as a bat comparison between the different ones you mentioned before. notice that I guarantee happiness. If within 10 days of getting one of my bats, you don't think it is the best wood bat of any kind, send it back and I'll refund your money. Pretty simple. And by the way, it's never happened.

John,
Thanks for your reply, I have studied bat speed etc, so in your honest opinion, I swing a 34/31 metal bat, should I drop to a 33/1/2 or a 33. I have always swung a 34 but I am not getting around on the ball like I used to. I am 48 but guys still bring it in the 80's in our league.
