Looking into purchasing a few wooden bats for an upcoming tournament opportunity. I have seen 3 different brands of Youth Wood that hold my interest. Consider this is a 7 year old that currently swings a 29/19 max.
Carolina Clubs-know the family
Marucci-See them in the Bigs
Dinger-just actually came across them recently
I don't get the sense that Slugger is using pro grade wood in kids' bats, but am sure of it with Carolina Clubs. Any experience at all with these bats? Anyone?

uses an A-Bat Warrior model by Superior Bat Co. He's used it for about 2 yrs for Tee work and still no dings or chips in it. I'm impressed by the quality.

29/19 big bat for a 7 yr old. Ouch.
.
We have a number of wood bats - all were purchased used - most for $10 or less. I don't feel the quality is that important for kids.

Check Americas Bat Co. New brand, but high quality bats. Check out my signature.

There's no difference in "pop" between one species of wood bat and another. Ash and maple have the same "pop" (or lack of "pop"!) Species that are less dense, however, allow you to make a lighter bat, other things being equal.
The difference in wood bats has to do with their length, their overall weight, and the way the wght. is distributed. Their shape is primarily important with regard to way it affects wght. distribution--more balanced vs. more end-loaded.
Also, handle size is important not only with regard to wght. distribution, but how it feels in the batters hands. But most kids' bats have skinny handles.
Various wood bat companies will describe how much "pop" this or that species of wood bat has. It's malarkey. Snake oil. But guys like it. The same way woman looking at 60 different moisturizers on a store shelf like to think that each one has different ingredients and qualities.
