Everybody thought that the NCAA ban would never happen....Well it happened.
You had all better enjoy your composites in High School, Tournament Ball and Little League while you can.
Composites are on the way out! I am not excited about this. I like to see homeruns hit. But I am afraid and have it from very good sources (the same ones that gave me the heads up on the NCAA) the all credible organizations, including Little League and USSSA are moving to ban composite bats in the very near future.
The NCAA thread was the longest ever on Baseball-Bats.net This should make for some really good discussion. Check your sources, check the wind and let's see how it goes.
Warmest regards,

I e-mailed the guy running the Western Region (US) Little League and he told me to wait until the 2010 Rules changes come out at end of October. He said he personally did not hear of any discussion surrounding bans on composite bats at the US Regional level, but he did tell me that there might have been discussions at the International level that he wasn't part of.

would not be surprised to see more orgs follow - especially Williamsport LL .... and other LL orgs ....
.
any bat that has been proven to propel the ball above the max (1.15 BPF ?) after 'break-in' could/will be a candidate .....

It's extremely unlikely that youth organizations will ban composite bats for the 2010 season.
A ban would enrage consumers who already own one (or more) of these bats, as well as enraging the bat companies and retailers, who have huge numbers of these bats in inventory.
With all the millions of dollars at stake, the manufacturers will probably offer to cover the youth organizations for any expenses incurred due to batted-ball injury litigation arising out of the the NCAA's statement that composite bats pose a safety issue.
Indemnifying the youth organizations will cost the manufacturers a lot less money than a ban of composites at the youth level.

I agree. A lot of people with a lot of money and power would make this difficult to accomplish below the collegiate level.

Agree - 2010 too early - (but) I believe it will happen in 2011.

My son, 13, went with the Anderson Nanotek XT -5 alloy and could not be happier. As your player moves up may want to consider this bat. Excellent pop and just an amazing sound. No sting yet. You can actually see the "sweet spot" on this bat. It has an xtra band of composite alloy added to the barrel that can be seen and felt. He's only used it moderately for about 1 month (had lots of rain in Centex) so can't speak to durability but so far so good. Bit it on the price as it's a 2010 model. But this bat is very balanced and the thin handle gives it a very good feel. No problem getting this thing around for him. He's about 5'5, 130. Used a Nike CX2 composite for youth ball and was very happy w'it, but wanted to go with an alloy during fall/winter select ball. No problem recommending this bat.

The Western USA Region office told me the 2010 Rules changes will be posted in the next few days online (LittleLeague.org). Like most of you stated, I'd be surprised if they took a hard stance on banning composite barrel bats for the upcoming season, given that many parents have bought bats already for the Spring. Keep an eye out.

Look for a ban the next season ..... and it could include other bats .... any bat that is proven to propel ball above 1.15 BPF after it is broken in ......

The rules changes are posted online today. There's a new section in Appendix D (Bat Modifications and Alterations Policy). I do not have the full text of it yet, but from the title/description, it doesn't appear to be anything significant in terms of composite bats in play.

New rules are up on the lttle league website. The only change is comp. bats that don't have 1.15bpf stamped on them will be allowed this year only if the companies show proof they are 1.15. They have a list of the ones that have passed already.
