What's a good bat for fall ball? My 10yr old uses a Combat B1 29/17 but obviously as we move to fall ball in the Chicago we move into cooler temperatures for games played mainly at night and that's not good for composites. Any ideas???

Any bat that des not warn that the ball should not be hit under 65 deg. That pretty much means an aluminum barrel.

I would also be concerned with a high-end aluminum bat with a significant drop (in cold weather) .... (although 65 degrees should not be an issue. Much of it depends on the temp of the ball) ......
.
For the cooler fall ball games - and early spring games - and extended sessions in the cage - my kids often used/use one of their 'back-up' bats. Same bat type/length/weight) - but with more use.
.
So ... you may want to consider a used bat or an old NOS bat ..... one aluminum bat I recommend is a LS TPX Omaha XS Scandium .... 29-16.5, 29-17 ... 30-17.5 or 30-18 ..... (models manufactured 2003-2006) ...... you can still find NOS versions of this bat - even though they have been out of production for a few years ... and used ones show up on ebay now and then ...
.
.
btw .... during one late fall game, my oldest kid used a 'back up bat' (old bat that was given to us) and went 4-4 (and a walk) and drove in a bunch of runs ..... (against top pitchers on a good team ) .... I'm still beaming over this years later ! ....

If your kid can swing it buy a Combat Virus, 29/19. My kids has hit his in fall ball games when temperatures dropped down in the lower 40's, no issue whatsoever.

hearing more and more people saying they haven't had any issues swinging composite bats during cold days. My son is in fall ball and we'll see what happens when he uses his Virus on cold days.

The best bat for fall is one that won't hurt your kids hands or definitely won't hurt them as bad as EVERY other bat on the market. Also, as someone else mentioned, there are no bats recommended for play under 60 degrees F. With that in mind I would recommend last year's Albin AHD Series bats. Albin has merged with Marucci and is no longer producing bats and I am no longer working for Albin but there are some bats still available and if you find the right place, youth models can be purchased for under $100. Your kids will be more willing to crush a ball when spring rolls around after their hands have survived cold balls and cold bats during the fall. For info on possible suppliers you can contact me through this forum. This is not an advertisement. This is a suggestion that your kids will thank for every time they get jammed in cold weather.

We are fortunate to ever get 65*+ weather in the Spring until mid to late May. We use the composites anyways, at least down to the low 50s. They still pop better than most of the alloy barrel bats and we haven't broken one yet.

The other reason I'm not worrying about it, and I have nearly $1000 invested in composite bats for my team, is that I believe Little League is going to ban them prior to the Spring 2011 season. They'll be hard to get rid of for more than pennies on the dollar after that happens so I don't know of any reason why I should be preserving them.

I expect to be shelling out some money this Spring for a couple of bats. I'm thinking probably a -12 Easton and either a Techzilla or Voodoo Black doublewall.
