View Full Version : Interesting what bats really weigh...
I just weighed 4 of my son's bats and here is what I found:
Demarini Vendetta 29/17...actual weight 17.4 oz.
Combat B1 29/17...actual weight 17.1 oz.
Demarini F2 29/19...actual weight 19.6 oz.
Anderson Techzilla (2007) 29/20...actual weight 21.3 oz
As you can see from the measurements, they are all very close to the stated weight with the exception of the Anderson, which is over an ounce heavier than the stated weight.
Yeah I know: I have way too much time on my hands...

I weigh every bat I ever purchase and yes there is variation. The Combat's are almost always right on with the exception fo the virus, it was like 3-4 oz heavy. The Anderson bats Techzilla and Pyrotech's are always heavy 1-3 oz.
I've called Anderson's about their bats being always heavy, even sent one Pyrotech back on their recommendation, they sent me one even heavier. Any more they just refer to the weight as swing weight if you call them. Swing weight is harder quantify so I think they figure most folks will go "ah okay".
Mikens have always been spot on as well.
Dimarini's are 2-3 oz heavy.
Easton's, about 1-2 oz heavy.
My unscientific findings base on alot of purchases.

In addition to the actual bat weight, I am often suprised by what a difference there can be for a kid swinging a balanced bat versus an end-loaded bat. I think that the type of balance is actually more important the the stated or measured weight. I have seen kids successfully go up 3 ozs in the same length bat just by changing to a more balanced bat.

Interesting ....
.
The F2 weight is the one that surprised me ..... the 29-19 F2 we had weighed around 1 oz more ... and the 30-20 F3 (we still have) weighs around 2 oz more ........

Agree with T Munson ..... few years ago, couple of kids in the league were killing the ball with F2 ..... a couple of kids then purchased F2 .... and some others tried the F2 .... A few did hit well with the F2 - but many struggled. Probably a combination of the weight - and the balance (F2 end/perimeter weighted).
