My friend is going to buy an Alm. bat for a 10 yr old. 30 " 2-1/4 . He does not want a composite. What are the hot Alm. bats going. He is thinking an Easton stealth or sv12.

I'll second that. Composite or alum it's the "hottest" 2 1/4" bat I've seen.

I noticed we must be gearing up for all-star season. The used techzilla prices are starting to rise. Last year before the season there was someone on ebay who had about 60 of the 2006 & 2007 models ... Sold them all for $90 (I wasn't smart enough to buy one). A couple weeks before the little league world series the older, used tech's were going for $400+ and selling...
I thought that was kinda funny ... I didn't remember seeing a kid in Willimasport swing one, I'm sure some did. I am going to have to find a Techzilla in the off season (not for my kid, he's into his B1's) but I have a kid league age 10 this year who is about 5'3 and 170+ pounds and kinda athletic (plays football and soccer). Didn't have a hit for me in Majors till two weeks to go in the season. Finally listened to what I was telling him and believed and started gets hits off some good 11 & 12 year old pitchers. I decided to nominate him for 9-10 all-stars. He hit two out during the final scimmage plus a couple screamers to the wall all with a $40 off the rack aluminum. I want to see this kid swing a 'tech.

That makes me sick to think I missed an opportunity like that. Now $400 no, I'm not doing that, but $90 for a '07 Tec.
Hands down best bat I've seen, his '08 being next, but it really had durability issues.

The only thing I see wrong with the Tech zilla is that it is only made in a -9. way to big for most of your wirey type kids. unless i'm wrong about the -9.

In regards to the Tech in a -9, it is a double wall bat, and you have to be able to swing a bat with power to get the effect of of the double wall, A double wall -11 would not give you much results I do not think.

My son swung one as a 8 yr old, and he's not some freak of nature by any means. Now I will admit I started him on a bat the was too big at tee ball, only because I had no idea what I was doing, thank god.
As for the Tec being offered in a lighter model, I would assume it's a matter of physics, being double wall and all. You can only fit so much metal into a certain space without increasing weight.

I was thinking something like a Dimarini voodoo alm. or an Easton stealth.
My son is a little over 140#(10yo). For a travel tourney this last week end, I got him a big barrel (2.75") Rawlings that weighted 22oz. Was still pulling the ball and hitting it great.
Looking for a 2 1/4 " barrel 22 to 23 oz bat to finish his Cal Ripken league this season. He was using a 18oz typhon.
He won't use a wood bat in a game so that is out. I want to wait until next season to buy a hot bat.

A (significant) jump from 18 ounce bat to 22 ounce not advisable - especially at this point of the season. Better to move up in smaller increments.
.
Having stated that, a 30" DeMarini double wall bat (F2/F3 30-20 or CF whatever 30-19) would be similar to a 30-22 or similar. The F2 and F3s I weighed were/are heavier than advertised and are end/perimiter-weighted. I found a 30-22 aluminum bat for my kid to swing when I was preparing him to (eventually) step up to a 30-20 F3. He found the 30/22 aluminum bat to feel lighter and swing easier than the 30-20 F3.
.
You could also purchase a LS Powerbolt - 30-22 (if they are still avail ?). Yes - this is an inexpensive/cheap bat. But before you laugh, this bat will do the job. One of the best youth league players I have seen used this bat. As an 11 yr old in a home run derby competition a few years ago - five swings - he hit four balls out and one hit the fence (200 ft). He did this with the least expensive bat in the competition - almost every other kid was swinging a composite bat - many/most using a F2 or F3.
.
Good luck !
Thanks Tom. I got him a heavy 22oz big barrel for a ravel tournament last weekend. He is the only kid on the team that could swing it. against good pitching his had 5 great hits, a deep fly, HP, and a strikeout. My son is big 140# and pretty strong. He swings his 18oz bat so hard that he losses balance and srews himself into the ground. We are a Cal Ripken league so no big barrels.
How long ago did they sell the LS powerbolt?
