Due to a couple of pretty serious injuries this past year, my town has switch to Wood Only bat rule. My son will be 10 at the start of the next LL season and here is my question.

He has been using a 29" -8 bat in aluminum and has always been a pretty big hitter. My research is leading me to believe most wood bats are -3 at best. What does anyone recommend as far as a good wood bat that is fairly light if there is such a thing.

I have been looking at mostly maple but would love to hear peoples opinions.

I am also a little concerned about price. My son plays in a town league, spring travel league and Summer Travel league. Due to this, I am not looking to spend a lot a money on a bat figuring he is bound to go through 3 or so during a season. He plays about 40 total games a year.

Thanks.....

JBK,

Not many of the youth bats I come across in testing and examining are -3 in weight. I make NYStixs wood bats, and for kids coming from aluminum I sell them their last bat size and a -4-5. I explain to the kids and parents that the kids have to workout by swinging everynight to develop muscles to get use to the weight. When you get into the full size(barrel) youth bats, then the -3 weight comes into play. You might want to choose maple bat. The pitchers at that age are not pitching that hard to break bats. C
