Hi,

New to the forum...

My son is 9 so a little younger then most on this forum. He plays competitive league ball in Texas (hot temperature) and has been using an Easton Reflex bat. The bat is way END heavy and all in all not a very good bat (better then the one we used last year).

We are basically trying to determine if he wants to stick this out before we start soaking the money in.

Anyways he wants to continue playing competitive ball and has tremendous eyesight (best on the team) and hand speed.

Problem is, he's not very big. He's maybe middle height on his team and very skinny. What is the best Comp Bat we can get him that is lite and can have some tremendous pop.

Most of his hits are grounders through 5/6 gap. Looking for a bat that'll help rocket his shots.

We've been looking at the Rush Comp Lite - 10 Composite bat 2 5/8 barrel. But on this forum i'm reading it's the lower of the Comp Bats...any opinions appreciated!!

Welcome,

Couple of items I would recommend. First, have your son swing every bat he can. Find what he likes. The single most important item is how he feels about a bat.

Next, a bat is a tool. Nothing more and nothing less. It is your son that is rocketing shots through the left side, not the bat. Sounds like he is doing well. The best thing you can do is let him hit as much as possible. Your biggest gains in hitting will be from lessons from a good coach. Once your son is older, still loves baseball and has an incredibly sweet swing, then any technology gain will appear to be greater.

One piece composite that won't break the bank and is balanced would be Louisville Catalyst or possibly a Combat to me. Last year models are on several sites. They are very good bats. He is 9, and just needs a good bat. I really don't get spending top dollar at this age, especially when you can still get last years bats with slightly different graphics being the biggest difference.

Last. Composites are a different animal. They need to be broke in over time. Do not be disappointed with how hot they are out of the wrapper, once the bat has 75+ solid hits on it, it will get hotter. The bat materials have to break down a little bit and act more like a trampoline.

Hope this helps. If you want more technical information, Google 'kettering.edu bats'.
