Hello Everyone and thank you for providing so much information throughout this forum.
My eight yr old son, (4' 4", 60lbs) just finished Rec league and was invited to play on a travel team. He currently uses a Rawlings Rival, 27/16 and is a wonderful line drive/contact hitter. A lot of line drives that make it to the fence with a couple hops and hard groundballs through the infield.
Now that he is going to be stepping up the competition ladder, we wanted to give him the same "tools" that the other travel players have. There were two travel players on his Rec team and the way the ball came off their bat's was a lot different than the $40 Rival. (They both swung different versions of the Stealth.) I know it's not just the bat, but I don't think you'd get the same action off the Rival than a higher end bat.
Does anyone have suggestions for bats if price was not an option? Or, any suggestions on 08' bats since they are starting to go on sale?
I'd like to get him the Combat DaBomb, (yes I've been reading your post's HardHitter) but am concerned going from 27" to 29" since the pitching machine will be throwing harder in the travel league.
Any help/suggestions on 28" bats, or if you think a 29/17 DaBomb won't make a big difference with the faster pitches, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
