I like the Superior "A" Bats. They have a "Warrior "youth model that you can customize for free. You can choose handle and barrel color, and choose cupped or no cup. Plus you can get it inscribed all for about $50 including shipping at Hittingworld.com. The finish is pretty good and the wood is strong. My son used it all winter for batting practice and you can hardly tell. There are no chips or cracks in the wood.

My son has been swinging wood bats made by the Barnstable Bat Company up on Cape Cod. Tom supplies alot of bats to the top college players in the country that play each summer in the Cape Cod League. This winter my son moved up to a "pony" sized bat and he is about the same size as your son. He ordered it in birch which is what alot of the Cape League players were swinging last year. They are very helpful w/ advice on the right size. The 2 youth bats he has been swinging in bp for a couple years are still in excellent condition. They have really held up well! Swinging wood has really improved his hitting these past 2 years-I really believe in wood for practice.

The website is www.barnstablebats.com and they will pretty much make you what you want and personalize it. Different finishes are available-my son's favorite is the natural handle with black barrel.

My son is 9 5ft 4in and weighs about 105. He uses a Combat Bomb 30/20. My question is what is a good size wood bat to get him for BP. And is there a certain kind of wood bat that is better than the next? Thanks..............Ken

Only bats I've tried are D-bats because they make a -8 and LS maples. NC mom bats might be worth looking into most of the time smaller wood bat companies make better bats IMO

Sorry, the website is www.barnstablebat.com I had bats before. If you read under the #1 choice-Birch Cape Cod League tab you will see a testimonial by J.S. =Justin Smoak who was a power guy in the CC League last couple years-from SC I think and should be top round draft pick.

They will make you anything but my son just moved up to the "pony" bat ($45)-bit heavier and I paid an extra $5 for birch. He has had really good luck with these bats holding up. If you have any questions Christine and Tom will guide you in the right direction. Our team played a wood bat tournament awhile ago and alot of the store bought ones cracked/broke in no time. He had most kids on the team using his by Sunday- they were all that was left. And those bats are still fine-he just outgrew them.

If you order a bat and live anywhere near the northeast I would strongly recommend picking it up in person and taking in some Cape Cod League games-some of the best baseball out there. Small hometown fields, free, great atmosphere and the top college players from across the country. Can't tell you how many guys I have seen from the CCBL that are now on my TV playing in the majors. My son enjoys those games (20 or so a summer) just as much as he loves seeing his Red Sox @ Fenway( 1 annual game$$)
