Hope someone can point me in the right direction. My son is seven and going into his first year of coach pitch. Last year in Tball he used a 26/16 and now wants a new bat this year. The problem comes in with the recomendations on size and wieght for his age. He is 7, but is 56" and 100pds. He says his old bat is to short now. Don't really know what type hitter he is yet, but want to buy him a solid bat he can learn on this year. Thanks for any help you can give.

I would say a 29" bat for him. Now as far as weight given your son's size you could go with a -10 or -11 drop. Is he strong? I ask because not every big kid is strong. Being young you still need to work on his mechanics, so getting a bat he can easily swing is very important. Go to a store and see what size bat feels right to him and have him hold it out in front of him with one hand. Count to about 15. If he can hold it, good. Not, drop the weight.
As far as quality that's up to you. What are your goals for him: staying in-house, part-time or full-time travel? If it's travel, you want him to start making impressions now. Yes, he'll get noticed for his size, but if he drops bombs as well, he'll be golden. Check out these bats after knowing what size he can handle: Combat Virus, Combat DaBomb, Combat Throttle, Demarini CF3, Demarini Voodoo, Demarini F3, TPX Catalyst-10, and the Various Easton Stealth comps and CNT's in -10 or -11. Whew! That's a lot of bats but I don't know your goals, how strong he is, and the weather where you're at. If you want quality bats but money's tight, just check out our tips for gettting son's some bats. Just search and you'll find it. Hope this helps.
