I am going to purchase a new bat for my 7 yr old son. Looking at a 07 Stealth SC900 Conn, Havoc, or an 07 Dynasty. I like the Stealth at 28/15 but wondering if it will be too barrel heavy? Does the connexion seem to be better than say the plain SC900 Havoc or something like the Dynasty would be better? I think a balanced bat with good pop would be best for him.

Also some opinions on the 27/14 (havoc) or a 28/15?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

What kind of Play will your 7 yr old be playing ? My sons went thru Coach Under hand to Coach Overhand ( we did not lob the pitch at all ) and then to kid pitch. One is now in USSSA travel and one still Little League. I progressed then thru many weights and lengths ... but worked with them and gave them options for hitting ( couple good bats in his bag ). What type of play will he be in ?

Check that .... Both had their first full season of games hitting off the tee. Nice level swingers.

He is playing pitching machine 36 MPH. Throws real baseballs. He has hit coach pitch since he was about 3. He is a great hitter, as I have worked with him, since he could walk. Last fall in pitching machine he used a 26in 14 oz. I havent yet decided on the 27/14 havoc or go to a 28/15 havoc, stealth, or dynasty.

thanks

What is your son's height and weight?

I made a similar post to yours about my 8 yr old.

Something to consider about pitching machine baseball is bat speed and bat weight. If a kid has very aggressive/fast swing, they can hit well with 15oz or 16oz bats. If they do not have enough bat speed, the bat will actually rebound off the ball. I have seen some good pitching machine hitters with medium to slow bat speed using 19 or 20 oz bats, but these are usually bigger kids 70+ lbs.

I do not have any experience with the higher end bats such as stealths, voodoos, etc. If the stealth is end loaded maybe the 28/15 would behave like a slightly heavier bat.

Last year, I had a lot of kids use an Easton 777 that was a 28/15.5. The kids that swung fast could drive the ball. But small kids that could easily handle 777 but had slower swings, would hit the ball better with a no-name 28/18 bat.

hey deboy,
he is probably real close to yours sons, he is about 52" and weighs about 55 lbs. he has a very fast aggressive swing. I am leaning towards a 27/14 or 28/15 havoc. still not sure though

thanks

My 2 cents - I would definitely choose the 28/15 over the 27/14.

Do you have any experience with the Havoc? What do you like about it compared to say a Dynasty? Is it more balanced than the Stealth?

I believe an aggressive swinger will not have a problem with th 28" bat ... deboy has good advice. Now about the Triple 777 .... even though they swing CXN's and Stealths .. My kids still love their old Tripple 777s ... I think we have 4 of them. ( 1-new, 1-fence dented, 1-flat no pop left, 1-new still in the wrapper). We've had great success with them, 8 yr old cleared the 150' fence with a line drive that never went over 18' high. I use them for team bats ... the drop 12.5 is nice against quick pitchers. Good luck

I dont know much about the Havoc or the dynasty, or really the stealth for that matter. The stealth I am looking at is a CNT handle/SC900 barrel. I dont know, but I wonder if this bat is end heavy. The havoc is SC900 solid 1 piece. I am interested in the dynasty as well? I just want to get the bat he will perform best with, which I think should be a evenly balanced one.

Thanks for all the thoughs/info, please come it coming

im not a real big fan of the havoc bats, used quite a few different models and all had less pop than the stealths and some other bats. the sc900 stealths are very balanced the all composite ones are a little end loaded, my son has used sc900 stealths for the last 3 years all have been great bats very good pop, as a team we have used about everything under the sun. the dynasty is a good bat but not as good as the stealth in my opinion, in my opinion the best youth
2 1/4" aluminum bats out there are:
1. stealth
2. anderson techzilla ( very end loaded but hits the ball a ton)
3. demarini f3
if you go to 2 5/8 or 2 3/4 bats then there are alot of good bats out there, but most machine pitch wont let you use a big barrell bat
if you go to all composite bats then there are some differences but for your price range you will be in the aluminum bat area
if you shop around always get the best alloy you can afford from any maker,.
most of the time you can get an older model bat for alot less, i know with the stealths all that has changed in the last 3 years is the paint job, the 2006 will hit just as good as the 2008, im sure its the same with alot of bat models.

tlajd,
the stealths i am talking about are any of the sc900 2 1/4 models from 2006 up, we have used alot of these over the years all the performance has been exceptional on all of them. and yes in a 2 1/4 inch barrell i would rate the techzilla very high based on the way the bat performs, my son has not used the techzilla himself, ( didnt like the end loaded feel) but i hve seen many in use and talked to players that use them all have given great reviews of them and they do hit the ball a ton. not every kid can swing the techzilla properly though. now if we are talking about big barrell bats then my rankings would change alot. and these are just my opinions, i have coached travel and rec ball for 4 years now, and we have seen tons of bats out there in use, i do chart all the bats my son uses on durability, distance and feel, but on others i am relying on what i gather from other coaches and players using the bats. on any of the top end aluminum bats from top makers, most will perform pretty evenly, ultimately it comes down to feel and personal preferance. a confident hitter will hit better every time.
