My son turned 9 this past April and he is using a 32/22 bat. He weighs 99 pounds and is 4 foot 7 inches tall. He does OK but I'm wondering that maybe if I get im a lighter bat he might do better.

I have put this info in another thread but it should help you. My son is 5'2" 130 lbs and he is 9 and wont turn 10 until next march. He is swinging a 30 inch 18 oz combat b1. Now I am not a professional coach, but I do coach a 9u usssa open division team, and from my experience, 22 oz is waaaay too heavy. However, if your son has increadible mechanics and he can attain enough bat speed with a 22 oz bat then he might be successful. So what I am saying is that I also have a big son, even bigger than yours but he is swinging a 4 oz lighter bat. Just because our kids are large does not mean they can swing a whole lot faster than the other kids. Plus if you compare your boy to a boy the same size 3 to 4 years older then you will be mislead. A 100 lb fourteen year old is much stronger than a 100 pound 9 year old. Let him swing a lighter bat, he will hit it further and more often AND he will master the correct mechanics of a swing much sooner. Just my .02:)

Thanks for the input. I went out htis morning and bought my son an Easton Stealth CNT 30/17. He has a game tomorrow so we'll see what happens. We went to the cages and he was whacking the living daylights out of those balls. Thanks again for your help!

That is a good bat. My son has a cnt green stealth 30 -17 that he uses in the cage, it was his old bat from over a year ago. When the pitching started cranking up in speed as we got further into our state and world series tournys, my son brought that bat out so he could catch up to the speed. You should be happy with that bat. Good luck.
