I have a very old wood bat, very obviously hand whittled. You can feel and see the knife draw marks in the wood where not worn smooth by use. 34 1/4", likely 34 1/2 originally, 2 3/8" diameter, uncertain of weight but quite heavy. Very straight grained wood, somewhat checked, stained darker color for 13 1/2" down handle (I was informed that this was likely Pine Tar but don't know how to tell). Where do I find info and resources for dating and identifying this item? I have searched a dozen antique baseball sites with no positive result. Is there anyone who deals in primitive and early authentic sports equipment that would have any info. Any help would be appreciated.
