I have a 9 year old son who will move up to Mustang division Pony league. He's currently swinging an old 29" Tripple 7. He has good mechanics and a powerful swing and no problem getting around on anything I throw at him. I was intending to get him a 30" 2 1/4 bat, but I'm considering a larger barrel -- looking for opinions on barrel size and/or brands.

biggest barrel why not give him the best chance for sucess. 2 1/4 is for little league not PONY. Unless he's a monster 100 plus pounds or 5'9" 30" is too big in my opinion just my 2 cents good luck!

My 9 yr old son is 4'6" and 75 lbs and just promoted up to a big barrel using a Stealth CNT
2 5/8 barrel, 29/19 for tournament play. This is his first experience with big barrels and was using a VooDoo 2 1/4" 29/17.5 for Little League.
He likes his big barrel so much better (more forgiving). When he swings his Voodoo now,
he has a faster swing and hits are just as far, but less forgiving. I know the drop 9's and 8's are too heavy for him to feel comfortable. Just my experiences.

My son plays travel ball and has swung a big barrell since age 7. For a good look at all the bats out there go here http://www.justbats.com/products/listview.asp?g=32&l=212 these are all the -10 senior league bats. i suggest you go with the Catalyst SL72C as it's the same as this years model only difference is it's blue and the new one is green. However the blue is on clearance for $169.99 and you won'y beat that anywhere.......

I agree with Riverbase 100% Catalyst is the biggest barrel and the best price. I paid a lot more and have no regrets. My son is a totally different hitter because of that bat and the confidence it gave him. He was the first on his team now there are 3 others who picked one up
