Hello,
It's very confusing out there with all the different ratios and sizes of bats. I was looking for some guidance of what size bat to get my son. He's almost 8 years old, a little under 4 feet tall and weighs 48 lbs. This past LL season he was using a 25/15 bat.It looks as though it might too short or too light or both. Also, if anybody could recommend a name brand bat that would be good for my son it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

length and weight play a big part in everything, I would (if it was my son) go with a 28" minus -13 or lighter(based on his weight). But also get him a 28" wood bat to help get him use to a heavier bat ASAP.
Great bat for the money, your son size and cost is the TPX dynasty( this bat is awesome for a youth to an adult) and at $119 can't go wrong.
FYI - For my son age 9, 4'11" and 80lbs he is using a 29" minus 13(too light, but needs it on some pitchers)stealth, also has a TPX dynasty 28" -13 and a TPX M9 wood bat 29". I did have a Techzilla and it was a very hot bat, but at -9 he was a little slow and thinking about getting another for the off season.
hope I could help a little

Go with last years Catalyst, or the light Combat. both are lightweight composite and since the new ones just came out the old ones are alot cheaper. You can get the blu catalyst at Sports Authority for $149 on clearance and some even have additional 10% off that. or visit www.justbats.com for some deals. Stick with a -13 since tour adding length also.

My son just finished little league at 9 years old. He swings a TPX Dynasty 30/16.5. He gets that bat around very well. It is a very durable and economic bat. My son seemed to have a huge develpment increase at 9. When he first started swinging that bat, people said he had slow hands. I had a few batting trainers work with him and it wasn't that he had slow hands, it was just that he wasn't strong enough and need a lot of muscle memory drills. Since then, his mechanics have really improved and after a few months of practice, and end of this years little league, he was one of the best hitters on the team. He gets that bat around too quick now, so we are looking into some more advanced bats, however, you can't go wrong with the Dynasty, it's a great bat and won't kill you on the cost, plus it's very durable. My son's size and strength really improved from 8 to 9. It was very noticeable. At 8 or 9 years old, I think the lighter the bat the better. It's the mechanics and muscle memory that are key at this age. I do feel that a longer bat at that age is beneficial to get more plate coverage, so go with a -13 or -13.5 and possibly a 28 or29 inch length at 8 years old. Hope this helps...!
