I would have say Sam Bats are the best in the game today.

I have used several different bats and basically it boils down to what you're comfortable with. If it feels good, use it. If you use it and get some good results pretty quick, obviously you are going to like that particular one.

The fact is, most every company uses the same (or very similar) turnings (C271, M110, etc). The only difference is the wood.

While I may not be totally objective, since I make bats myself, I think there is nothing wrong with going to the little guy. Big companies use their best wood for the pros and where they can get exposure. You can speak with the smaller companies, and work with them and get information as to your options.

I agree. Going with one of the smaller guys can get you a better bat. LS produces various grades of bats. The best, of course, is the 1XX, which is only available to the pros. Most of the smaller companies produce similiar models and are even willing to tinker with it a little for more of a custom bat to suit your needs. The wood that you get from one of the smaller companies is the same as what they send the pros. You can even request the same turn as your favorite player. Most of the smaller guys are craftsmen and take great pride in turning a great bat for you.

Monarch,

The 1XX wood that LS puts out is not the same wood the Major Leaguers get. Their grade of wood is not available to the public from LS. That same wood, however, is available from many of the smaller bat makers.

I have been using Sambats for the last 3 years. I have tried ash and yellow birch also. Bottom line is, Sambats break just like any other bat, but damn, these weapons of mass destruction have pop. You hit ash on the nose, and you can feel it flex, thus losing pop. Off maple Sambats, there is no flex(very limited) and its the closest feeling to hitting with an aluminum. I just ordered a model 73 X Bat, tried my buddies and it felt great. Im sure there are a lot of other great companies out there too, like Old Hickory. Try a Sambat, you'll be impressed.

My personal favorite is the Hoosier WoodForce 2000. (Both because of the performance
and because I'm originally from Indiana :) ). I really liked my Brett Brothers maple, too.

What about X bats? How do you guys feel about them? I am a coach and I use the xbat fungo. It is the best fungo made in my opinion. I see xbats in the pros but have you guys tried them?

Hey, I just bought a bat from the American Bat Company and I must say it is a solid stick. Not to mention it looks like a piece of art, these guys do a great job! I have the J07 and love it. Check them out http://americanbatco.com
