Sam Bats
Founded in 1997, Sam Bats got their start by introducing maple bats to Major League Baseball. In the process, they launched the maple bat craze that has swept professional baseball in the last 15 years.
Sam Holman, a long time wood carver, led the innovation in maple bats in response to complaints that pro baseball players simply broke too many baseball bats throughout the season. After a great deal of research, Sam developed a method to remove enough moisture from hard maple so that maple bats would be light enough to swing. Once Sam Bats gained MLB approval in 1998, the bats quickly caught on with major league players.
Sam Bats’ 2011 product line includes Select Bats like the Model 73 / 2K1. This is the bat that Sam Bats developed for Barry Bonds; it is the bat that Bonds used during his record breaking season of 73 home runs. With its large, flared knob, this bat features a big barrel and nice balance. It’s a serious bat for serious sluggers.
Other 2011 Select Bats like the CD1, KB1, MMO and RB8 models are professional grade maple bats with straight grain to maximize strength.
In addition to their Select Bats, Sam Bats offers complete customization of regular barrel bats, enabling players to specify length, weight, cupping and color. An interesting note about the attention Sam Bats gives to the quality and integrity of their wood: Sam Bats never engraves custom bats, even if MLB players ask them to - instead, they
inscribe the bats by hand because they don’t want to affect the integrity of the barrel.
Sam Bats offers this same level of customization and attention to detail with custom big barrel bats.
Sam also makes two Little League bats (models LL-CD1 and LL-KB1) that meet Little League standards as well Sam Bats own standards of bat quality.
Most Sam Bats sell for about $130 each.
