Louisville Slugger / TPX

In 2011, Louisville Slugger baseball bats continue to enjoy the exalted status as one of the most iconic brands in the game.

Louisville Slugger uses their patented Exogrid technology to deliver power and performance through stiffness and strength. The company claims this gives the bat a stiffened handle but still allows for a trampoline effect on the barrel. Louisville Slugger introduced this hybrid technology in 2006, combining one-piece construction with carbon composite inserts, and they have been developing it ever since. L.S. markets their Exogrid technology with the slogan “Stiffness + Strength = Power and Performance,” and these bats are widely seen as living up to the hype.

In addition to the Exogrid line of bats, Louisville Slugger has recently introduced H2 technology, which the company describes as the “next step” in hybrid technology. Louisville Slugger’s 2001 line of H2 bats combine stiff composite handles with special alloy barrels to marry high performance to lasting durability, according to the company.

Louisville Slugger has been a leader in the sport since they started making white ash baseball bats in 1884. Louisville Slugger bats were used by historic legends like Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron. Today, more professional baseball players use Louisville Slugger bats than any other brand.

Prices for wooden slugger baseball bats start at $20 and run up to about $150. Louisville Slugger’s Derek Jeter Pro Wood Bat sells for $100. Louisville Slugger's composite aluminum bats also start at about $20. The 2011 TPX Triton XL baseball bat, made of 100% aerospace-grade graphite, retails for $300.

Types of aluminum alloy used in Louisville Slugger bats:
7046: durable, affordable alloy
Cu31: combines performance and durability
C405 (7055): widely used for high-end bats
C555: contains scandium (a transition metal sometimes classified as a rare earth element) that adds strength
